Mr Badger knitting pattern from The Wind in the Willows
If, like me, you grew up with a love of The Wind in the Willows, you might like to try your knitting needles out on this little chap. It’s Mr Badger designed by Claire Garland and available to buy as a PDF download pattern on Etsy.
When knitted Mr Badger will measure approx.23cm/ 9in tall.
Included in this pattern:
Digital knitting pattern – flat knitting on 2 needles, body, knickerbockers, slippers, neckerchief and tweed coat made with minimal seaming, joining as you go
Claire gives yarn recommendations too, within the pattern, if you want to make yours similar to hers and if you want to knit in a similar yarn – which is Drops Alpaca and Drops Kid-Silk for Rowan Kidsilk Haze.
Find similar toy eyes by searching on Etsy – there are lots of sellers here from all over the World! If you’re planning to make this as a gift for a baby or little one, you should avoid adding toy eyes. Safer alternatives include crochet or embroidered eyes.
Mr Badger – how he appears in the book…
‘They waited patiently for what seemed a very long time, stamping in the snow to keep their feet warm. At last they heard the sound of slow, shuffling footsteps approaching the door from the inside. It seemed, as The Mole remarked to the Rat, like someone who was walking in carpet slippers that were too large for him and down at heel. Which was intelligent of Mole because that was exactly what it was. There was the noise of a bolt shot back and the door opened a few inches enough to show a long snout and sleepy, blinking eyes.’
The Wind in the Willows Kenneth Grahame (1908)
