At Seilich, we handpick botanicals from our wildflower meadow to produce truly sustainable, all-natural, award-winning skincare products.
All Seilich products are made using Wildlife Friendly certified botanicals that are grown in our wildflower meadow in the Lothians of Scotland. Wherever possible all ingredients we use are natural, low carbon, organic, vegan, palm-oil free, sustainably produced and of UK origin (click here for more information).
Seilich products stand apart from others in the natural skincare sector, being made from botanicals which they hand pick from their wildflower meadow, earning them their unique Wildlife Friendly Certification.
Their Meadow Face Mask Gift Set contains a bottle of their award winning Meadow Face Mask powder, and a bottle of freshly distilled hydrosol (also known as floral water), which when mixed together create a luxurious facial treatment. The set comes complete with a handmade ceramic bowl (made by Biscocho ceramics) and a masking brush.
Our ethos
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Seilich. From the planting of our wildflower meadows to the subsequent harvesting, and the creation of our sustainable, all-natural skincare products, mists and teas, to our overall business operations. We aim to show that running a successful business doesn’t have to make a negative impact on the environment. Your support enables us to manage and create more wildflower meadows year on year, providing habitats for lots of local wildlife species.
Profits from product sales are used to create further wildflower meadows for the benefit of nature, so by supporting Seilich you are helping helping nature too! To find out more about the Seilich meadow .
We aim to be as transparent as possible about our claims to sustainability and calculate sustainability metrics for each of our products. Below you will find the definitions we use when referring to product sustainability. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out about the sustainability of our packaing. For more information about the sustainability of our products, see our FAQ page.

Low Carbon – ingredients that are made by companies which; use low carbon technologies (e.g. cold process), are UK based and therefore have low transport emissions, use alternative energy sources e.g. wind power, to make their products.
Seilich Sustainability Score – this is an average of the 9 values above, and gives an overview of the products sustainability rating.
Packaging
Packaging/Recycling and Refills – When purchasing online, your product will arrive in fully recyclable packaging comprising; a cardboard box, biodegradable tape and starch packaging pellets (these look like they’re made from plastic but they’re not, promise). Whether you purchase online or through a shop/market, you’ll find our products packaged in glass bottles and cardboard boxes which prevent light from reaching the precious botanical extracts within. Although both glass and cardboard are widely recyclable, unfortunately the bottle closures (pump/mist tops) are not, as they are made from mixed materials. We are currently working to find alternative bottle closures, but in the mean time we ask that when re-ordering one of our products you retain the pump/mist tops rather than throwing them away, and buy one of our refill bottles as a replacement. The refills are packaged in glass bottles with aluminium caps (which are also widely recyclable), which you can then replace with the pump/mist from you’re earlier order.
Our meadow
Skincare products are often sold as ‘natural’, however all too often this ‘nature’ it taken from the earth, cropped and bottled, leaving nothing for the wildlife that was so dependent on it. At Seilich we do things differently, with most of our wildflower meadow being left undisturbed for nature to enjoy… Each year we use profits to increase the size of our wildflower meadow, as well as working with community groups to create wildflower meadows in the wider area.
What does Wildlife Friendly Farming mean at Seilich?
-
We use organic farming practices, never ever spraying our crops with pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers (in fact partially nibbled plants produce more of the volatile compounds that make our products smell so yummy!)
-
At least 50% of the ingredients in our products come from the Seilich meadow. All other ingredients are natural, organic, vegan and sourced from within the UK where ever possible.
-
We only work with native/naturalised Scottish wildflowers (therefore providing habitat for many species of wildlife)
-
When it comes to harvest time, we never ever remove all the plant material from the Seilich meadow. We always leave around 50% of our plants in the ground ensuring continuous habitat for wildlife.
-
We always maintain a large area of wildflower meadow which we never harvest from. This provides habitat continuity (and an oasis of calm when the rest of the meadow is busy!)
-
We also love to share our passion for wild habitats and work with local community groups to create wildlife habitat throughout the region.
-
Finally, to make sure that these practices are working, we survey our meadow and crops for pollinators both before and after harvest.
Wildlife Friendly Certification
Seilich is the very first Wildlife Friendly Certified company in the UK and only the second in all of Europe! We were able to gain this certification due to the growing practices we use which ensure that our meadow is a place of shelter for wildlife. The Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network (WFEN) was formally organised in 2007 to promote wildlife conservation through responsible production practices, enterprise development, education and branding. Products may be certified by WFEN if amongst other things they have a strong conservation mission and the products made contribute directly in situ conservation of key species. The key species conserved by Seilich are pollinators; from bees to butterflies to beetles. Our meadow will always provide a haven for this important group of species.
