I (Julie) started making soap a few Christmases ago as a way to give low waste, sustainable gifts to friends and family. I started Lather and Smudge and make cold process soap the old fashioned way. Natural ingredients, poured into wooden moulds, cut after 24h and left to cure for at least 6 weeks. The longer the cure, the creamier the bar!
My husband/sidekick Rob is the shampoo guy. He started out in research Chemistry but has now taken the plunge into the family business and is loving it!
Together we run our little family business from the Scottish Highlands in Killiecrankie, just north of Pitlochry, at the entrance to the Cairngorms.

The Spiced Orange soap contains Sweet Orange essential oil and is a big favourite with our customers. It is a calming and comforting scent which would make for a fine soap on its own. We add a dash of Clove and Jasmine essential oils to really make it pop. The clove gives it a hint of spice, the jasmine gives it delicious floral undertones. The swirls of dark orange complement the scents, making our Spiced Orange soap a delight for the senses. To get this natural pop of colour we infuse oils in annatto seeds for hours, but we think it is well worth it. Don’t you?
Our Sweet Orange lip butter also captures the essence of orange. Please keep our lip butters dry. Our lip butters are entirely natural and preservative free so keeping them dry keeps them fresh!
