Free lamb knitting pattern and step by step tutorial
You loved the Baby Bunny free pattern we shared so much (get it here: How to knit a bunny rabbit baby – free pattern) that we decided to share this lovely free lamb knitting pattern too.
It’s another design by Claire Garland and I love how she captures the personality of a soft, fluffy baby lamb. Surely the cutest handmade gift ever?
Claire has kindly agreed to share her pattern pdf for free here (scroll to the end of the post to download the free pattern).
There are simple step by steps, tips from Claire herself as well as lots of beautiful images to help you. Hope you enjoy!
Claire’s creative ideas to customise your lamb
I’ve suggested using pair 8mm grey toy eyes with plastic backs – but, as this lamb would make a very sweet toy for a young child, may I suggest you consider embroidering the eyes instead. Either with a French Knot worked into the eye space with a large needle and some black DK yarn – or sewing small stitches that radiate around a centre spot like close together spokes of a wheel.
Also, I’ve used bouclé yarn but your could also try using another textured yarn like a chenille – and maybe knitting a little black lamb too?
Step by Step images to help you
Claire is always happy to answer any questions by email if you get stuck! Either add a comment at the foot of this post or send her an email on claire@dotpebblesknits.com. Good luck!

Hello Claire
I’m a fairly adept know but I’m struggling with the directions for the lambs head back. When I pick up the live stitches after finishing the left ear, with rs facing and starting from the left by the time I reach row 4 I do not have 15 stitches left to purl. I tried starting the new yarn at the seventh stitch from the left but by row 6 I only have 14 stitches left to purl. Is there something basic I’m missing here.? I’m trying to knit this little lovely for my granddaughter for Easter. I’d appreciate any guidance you could offer.
Love your patterns and I’m currently working on Peter Rabbit for my grandson as well, with no issues so far. I usually find your instructions perfectly easy to follow!
Cheers
Janice from Canada
Hi Janice, Linda here, I am knitting th lamb for my new granddaughter too but can’t work out how to knit the head back either, however, I am not as adept as you and am struggling with the part where you knit the stitches (8 on left and right and 13 in the middle) without getting the knitting twisted- row 19 – can you help?
Can you help?
Hi Janice – sorry I missed your comment when it came in earlier this month! Hope you’ve either finished your lamb or it’s not too late to get the help you need!
I am having the same exact problem as Linda. Do you have any advice or can you help?
Thanks,
Elise Robinson

So sweet. Thank you, Claire. Your creations are always lovely. Be safe, be well.
I am having the same exact problem as Linda. My stiches just get twisted despite me trying row 19 for a second time. Am I doing something wrong? Can you help?
